On This Day: November 1, 1952

On this day - November 1, 1952 - the US tested a hydrogen bomb, marking the first ever detonation of a thermonuclear weapon.  The test took place on Enewetak, an atoll in the Pacific Ocean.  The blast code named “Ivy Mike” registered a yield of 10.4 megatons (450 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki at the end of WWII).  This development gave the US a brief advantage over the Soviet Union in the nuclear arms race.

My dad got colon cancer at the age of 33. He was a young man in the Air Force at the time of the nuclear blasts. As a mechanic, he worked on "hot" airplanes that flew around and through the Enewetak tests (there were several). None of his five kids got cancer - we are all in our 50's now. I can't prove he got cancer from the Enewetak testings but there is a "duh" factor about it. He has lived for 40 years with a permanent colostomy. My father didn't need the reminder of the anniversary.

David, Relax. My point is that even Man's most destructive efforts will NOT effect our Climate. It is a farce to think that we have any control over what nature and the Sun will do. We can and should be as efficient as possible with the energy that we use, but the market will regulate that if Congress and Obama will leave us alone.

If CPB or any of the other lemmings leaping about, playing silly buggers, exclaiming "the end of the world" over what ALGORE announced as "Climaate Change", they would realize it is a massive scam pulling in uncounted millions with more pouring in. Libraries are full of information regarding earth's history and the climate changes. EVer heard the word: "Climactic Cycles"? The Chicken Littles will continue to dash about though and send their money to those making millions from their stupidity!!
