Fox News Sunday in the News

    Limbaugh lets loose

    The Washington Post - November 2, 2009

Fox News may be unable to get White House guests as the two sides remain in verbal combat, but Rush Limbaugh was more than happy to fill the gap.

On "Fox News Sunday," the conservative radio host said President Obama has "got an out-of-this-world ego. He's very narcissistic. . . . He's immature, inexperienced, in over his head." For good measure, Limbaugh also told Chris Wallace that Obama is "a child." And he called the president's visit to Dover Air Force Base to honor deceased soldiers returning home a "photo op," amplified by a "sycophantic media."

Wallace, who has called administration officials "a bunch of crybabies," may be waiting awhile for his next White House guest.

Presidential adviser David Axelrod responded on CBS's "Face the Nation": "I think it's a surreal day when you're getting lectures on humility from Rush Limbaugh. . . . He's marketing the outrageous. . . . He's an entertainer."

White House adviser, senator fire back at Limbaugh

    The Washington Times - November 2, 2009

A top White House adviser and a senator fired back at conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh on Sunday for criticizing President Obama's trip to Dover Air Force Base to view the caskets of 18 fallen U.S. soldiers last week.

Mr. Limbaugh criticized Mr. Obama's viewing of the caskets as part of a broader attack on the president's handling of Afghanistan and his credentials.

"It was a photo op precisely because he's having big-time trouble on this whole Afghanistan dithering situation," Mr. Limbaugh said on "Fox News Sunday." He called Mr. Obama's political rise "a five-minute career."

"I think he's got an out-of-this-world ego. He's very narcissistic, and he's able to focus all attention on him all the time," he said.

Senior White House adviser David Axelrod and Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, Connecticut independent, both defended Mr. Obama's visit, calling it genuine and questioning Mr. Limbaugh's credentials to make such a statement.

"I think it's a surreal day when you're getting lectures on humility from Rush Limbaugh," Mr. Axelrod said on CBS' "Face The Nation." "The fact is that he is an entertainer. The president has to run the country."

The White House adviser said Mr. Obama went to Dover "to represent the American people and pay his respects to the families who had made so much of a sacrifice, to those brave service people who made the ultimate sacrifice. It was the appropriate thing to do, and I think most Americans appreciate that."

Mr. Axelrod also tied Mr. Limbaugh's remarks to the upheaval in the special election to fill an upstate New York congressional seat, where a liberal Republican dropped out over the weekend after seeing his support erode in favor of the Conservative Party candidate. Mr. Axelrod said the intra-Republican fight shows that there's "no room" for moderates in the Republican Party.

Mr. Lieberman, a former Democrat who has been at odds recently with most other members of the Senate Democratic Caucus over the decision to support a public option in the health care legislation, said he was proud Mr. Obama viewed the caskets at Dover.

"I just totally disagree with" Mr. Limbaugh, Mr. Lieberman said on CBS' "Face the Nation." "On the question of President Obama going to Dover to be there to honor the American heroes whose bodies were returning, I think he was there as commander in chief for all Americans. And I don't fault him or question his motives at all."

Fox has clearly decided that ratings mean more than being a trusted news source. Fox News is becoming a caricature and punchline for Jokes like on SNL. They have two uneducated clowns in Hannity and "Red Neck" Beck spewing half truths or out in out lies. Then you have Bill "The Molester" O'Reilly. This liar says he never reads "talking points" but is constantly usingthe same buzz words with other conservatives to attack libe rals and democrats.Frank Luntz, Heritage and others give these clowns.

I watched the Rush Limbaugh interview a few weeks ago. I believe I understand now why the white house declared fox news isn't really news. Why would a news organization interview an entertainer? Why not interview George Clooney or are they going to interview Michael Moore? Rush Limbaugh isn't news and I don't think that anyone cares what he thinks except perhaps right wing radicals. I will watch Fox News for entertainment but I don't watch it for anything newsworthy. Tom

IT IS PURE AND SIMPLE. DEMOCRATS CAN T HANDLE THE TRUTH. THEY ARE ALL CAUGHT UP IN THE LAND OF OZ OBAMA. HAS NT KEPT HIS WORD ON TRANSPARENCY, TAX HIKES, LOBBYISTS,PUTTING INFO ON C SPAN HIS RELATIONSHIPS WITH ANTI AMERICAN ANTI WHITE REV WRIGHT, BILL AYERS RESCO AND ALL THE OTER MARXISTS. BUT YOU DEMOCRATS CAN T SEE THAT. WHY? YOUR ALL MORONS

Are you a moron or can't read? People have exposed Rush's lies on this board.Read the transcript Rush was answering the questions before Chris even finished.Completely disgusting.I will take one of the lies from the interview and expose it but there were at least 6 other half truths or lies. Many conservative liars like O'Reilly,Hannity claim Iran is "nuking up". Our CIA recently re-affirmed the 2008 NIE that Iran had halted it's weapons program. Only a liar would make a statement like that.

I love reading the negative feedback left by liberals following the interview of Mr. Limbaugh. Their need to lam blast and slander him rather than present evidence proving he's wrong on "anything" he had to say is proof in itself that he is right in what he had to say. The lack of intelligence and the ability to engage in critical thinking is always apparent and consistent with these folks. They never let the facts get in their way.

I read many of these comments with bilious disgust. These socialists claiming to be "conservatives" rave and rant whilst practicing selective listening in order to leap upon anything to critic or make up something like the rest of their ilk. None of them listen to content. Rather, each waits and lurks for the chance to drool and shout "SEE!" What utter and patently unredeamable fools. And these droolers are a large part of our voting pool. I weep. David

Forget about suspending Glen Beck. They should have suspended Chris Wallace after that interview. Rush and Chris two spineless cronies on full display.

As a conservative I feel Rush is a 20 ton anchor on the ideology. Rush has hijacked conservatism like Bin Laden hijacked Islam for his own power. If Rush were a conservative he would have been screaming every day just as loud about G. W. Bush. Rush is in business to defend Republicans. He makes too many slanderous over the top statements which get him ratings but no converts to conservatism. His statements are hung around our necks which make it very easy for to marginalize us.

That's what Murdoch got and wanted. A guy with no self respect and no courage but a decent pedigree to give the show credibility on the surface. I'm sure even Murdoch was disgusted with the shameless display. As someone pointed out before the only person Chris has the guts to challenge is a disabled Iraq Veteran on the job 6 months.

Do you think Mike Wallace looks at Chis like Michael Douglass looks at his son? What a disappointment Chris must be to Mike! Most sons try to expand or at least hold up the legacy past down by their famous fathers. Chris has not the character nor the honor to hold up his father's reputation. Chris playing Ed McMahon to Rush Limbaugh brought even Fox News to new low.

Chris wet his pants/chickened out on the Rush love fest, tossing softballs to the king of the FOXY wingnut base. Shame the apple did fall far from the father's tree. (Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes fame.)They'd have tarred and feathered Chris had he asked anything controversial. Hey, Chris, what's with the no socks look? Was he trying to say the black guy in the WH is making up swine flu to inject our kids with "liberal Democrat" innoculations or does $40M a year only buy doctor-shopped painkillers

I'm amazed to the aggressive criticism of Mr. Wallace on the board even from a few conservatives. As a journalism student I think we should use that interview as prime example of what not to become as a journalist. Also, what a journalist with no ethics and zero desire to seek the truth resembles. I'm amazed that Mr. Wallace would squander those ethics on Mr. Limbaugh who constantly appeals to our worst ideals like anger, fear, selfishness and suspicion.

About the Rush Limbaugh interview: I wish Rush could come off this thoughtful on his radio show. It might not be as entertaining nor sustaining for him, but I believe this is the tone that would ultimately present him and his ideas to more people and certainly be less polarizing.

Rush is one of the few people that is not afraid to speak the truth..He is not right all the time, but he usually isn't far off the [mark] either. What do you call it , When the President says,he will not risk American lives.. While Americans are being Killed because of his lack of support..Hard to beleive it is American Soldiers that he is worrying about...

Bravo Mark Doyle!! I remember that interview Chris completed with with the Secretary of Veterans affairs. Chris browbeat this woman who like you said had only been on the job a few months and lost her leg in Iraq. Yet he doesn't have the righteousness or the morality to question equally as hard a charlatan like Rush. Chris proved how corrupt he really is/ Chris please look yourself in the mirror after completely mis-characterizing the Veterans Handbook. How do you look yourself in the mirror

Mike Wallace

The thing is that Chris is smart enough to know that what Rush was spewing was garbage and incendiary. Hate speech to incite the base before the election. Chris instead decided to phone it in, collect his game check and go home. By the way Chris was a registered Democrat for 20 years. Instead he choose to sell his integrity and good name down the river to make a political entertainer with no credibility. Your family must see that as your shining moment in journalism.

I think that Rush's comments were right on the button. His comments should awaken the American Public who are being crushed into the dust by our current leadership. I'm receiving social security and will not receive a cost of living raise at the end of this year. Isn't it amazing that members of our congress feel that they deserve more than the common people in every move that they make. The entire house of congress should be fired! Thank you, Rush

I was deeply disapointed by this interview. It was billed as an interview with rush limbuagh, instead we got an interview with the radio host limbuagh with all its absurd pronuncments and convoluted auguments. Despite chris wallace's valiant attemmts to elicit an intelligent response, we had a parody of an interview. This is a slap in the face to FNS and Mr Wallace. FNS viewers expect intelligent responses regardless of which side of an issue the guest is on, .Shame on you Rush Limbuagh

November 3, 2009 at 3:54 pm

Mike

As an active duty member of the United States Air Force, I am utterly offended that Rush would assume President Obama's visit was a public realtions ploy. Of course no rhetoric came from Rush's mouth when you saw President Bush attend military funerals and meet with the deceased member's family. Why the criticism for our current President? Just because you don't agree with his politics or policies? Does that make his appearance at Dover any less honorable? Rush, pls read 1 John 4:7-8.

Chris was frightened to death of Rush. You could see it in eyes. If Chris can't hold to account a clown like Rush Limbaugh then he should do everyone a favor and quit. I'm sure Ruoert Murdoch was even embarrassed by that dog and pony show of an interview.
