The Republican Party prevailed in two key Governor’s races this week, winning an open seat in Virginia and ousting a Democratic incumbent in New Jersey. GOP leaders claim that the two gubernatorial victories signify a referendum on the Administration’s first year in office. Chris Wallace gets reaction from one of Tuesday’s big winners when he talks with Virginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell.
Segment 1 Guest: Bob McDonnell, Virginia Governor-elect (R)
Although the election results were seen by some as a big win for Republicans, the only Congressional seat to change hands went to the Democratic party. So, did their win in Congressional District NY-23 prove that President Obama still has plenty of influence left on the national stage? We’ll put the question of what happens in 2010 to the top House Democrat responsible for increasing his party’s majority and one of the Republican Party’s leading conservative voices.
Segment 2 Guest: Rep. Chris Van Hollen, (D) Maryland / Chairman, DCCC
Rep. Mike Pence, (R) Indiana / Chairman, House Republican Conference
Plus our Sunday Panel:
Brit Hume – Fox News Senior Political Analyst
Mara Liasson – National Public Radio & Fox News
Bill Kristol - Weekly Standard & Fox News
Kirsten Powers – New York Post & Fox News
And back in 2003 our Power Player of the Week was at the center of a national scandal, but now he helps others get their lives back on track.
Power Player: Jayson Blair, Former NY Times Reporter
I've watched all the Sunday news/talk programs, including Fox News Sunday. Not one single person has pointed out the real reason the Obama administration is bringing five terrorists to civilian trial in New York City. It's to embarrass and prosecute the Bush Administration, period. The terrorists won't be on trial; it will be President Bush, VP Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and many more. And the mainstream media, the New York Times and the usual suspects, will be cheering them on. Shameful.
No matter how you look at it Fort Hood was a terrorist act. The major was a Muslim who decided he could not go to war against other Muslims, this is like the case at the start of the Iraq war when a muslim soldier killed an officer in the 101st a/b div. That man said we were invading and killing muslims and raping their women. If he was part of an organized group I do not know, but his Islamic views are what caused what happened no matter what people may say or what excuse they offer.
Everything about the Fort Hood murderer is a contradiction. A psychiatrist who is a nut. A military man scared of soldiering. A confused, delusional American Muslim. Add the Koran to the mix and "Boom". In an attempt to be martyred, he is only maimed. He's nothing but an bumbling, insane coward. For all his troubles, he may very well be a patient under Obamacare. Ahh...there may be justice after all.
The absence of Workers Compensation Insurance in the Health care issue has got me confused. Over forty states has some sort of Workers Compt. As costly as it is to companies. You would have thought it would have been included in the debate. What's the secret their hiding?
The first question to ask: Have Speaker Nancy Polosi and the healthcare supporters behind locked doors been forthcoming? If decent people can remove political bias on the healthcare plan supported by Polosi, their conclusion would be clear, if they raised a second question to themselves: Would anyone in personal life go along with someone who obscures?
Re: Chris Van Hollen My husband and I were 2 of the "Freedom Fighters" who took the day off and went to DC on Thursday. His office is where we had dialouge with a staff member of some sort and allow us to ask questions. He, the staff member said he wrote the bill-and he could answer our questions-needless to say our voices were not heard and trust me we had many excellent questions and suggestions. This bill is for the unions and attorneys who got this administration in power-NOT THE PEOPLE.
Political correctness is the standard by which DOD works. The vast majority of those serving see a uniform and race, sex, ethnicity, and religion play absolutely no roll in evaluation and performance. However, those that are poor performers use their race, sex, ethnicity, and religion to intimidate superiors. Leaders making judgments jeopardize their own careers are if politically protected groups in the Military make any allegation towards them.
My own career was ended by such an allegation though the findings supported that I personally did nothing wrong, the allegation is sufficient to end a career after 20 years of exceptional service and achieving command.
Look at what happened to Admiral Author, look at all the destroyed careers coming out of Tailhook though not one Navy member was found responsible. Just the association with an allegation is sufficient to destroy careers.
Congress will investigate the Army, they need to turn the mirrors on themselves, as they are the ones that created the protected groups and then punished those that trying to do the correct actions but not the politically correct action.
What the hell happened? I turn on Fox news sunday to try and get a fair and balanced view of the health care vote from yesterday and I get a 2 hour Fox sports special. I guess this wasn't an important enough event for Fox news Sunday? Thanks for letting us down. All we get are the faux conservatives like David Brooks and Ed Gillespie to nod there heads yes while the liberals spew garbage on the alphabet networks.
Thanks to Kirsten for the insightful was she made Bill's point for him. Imagine: A white male Army officer, known to attend a fundamentalist christian church, prostheletizing to his patients, going on right-wing wacko blogs advocating killing abortion providers. Does anyone think for a second this guy would be allowed to remain in the Army?
Someone please help that blonde lady who compared the bombing of an abortion clinic by a Cristian to what happened at Fort hood. Let's see, how many Cristian terrorists have attacked America and other western countries? Grow a brain blondie.
A horrible attack on our military this past week & you stop the panel. Chris, I always feel your ''Power Player of the Week is a bit lame. This week it was INSULTING. Shame on you.
Why isn't anyone challenging the Constituionality of the entire healthcare debate?? I know the Constitution, and don't see anywhere in our founding document, the "right" to "health coverage", nor do I find the government's authority to mandate health coverage for me and my family. What's happening to freedom and liberty and personal responsibility in this country, and when is someone in the media going to stand up and report responsibility?
And when will we stop talking about Health Care Reform, Cap and Trade, etc., and start talking about what this is really about: Government control of EVERYTHING.
Barring any evidence of actual direction from a terrorist organization, this is an individual with prior problems who "snapped". The political correctness argument does not absolve the military for not properly assessing the potential harm that this individual could inflict. Although, I am still amazed that an individual can still easily purchase weapons of mass destruction and hundreds of rounds on ammunition, which is still not a part of the discussion in the media.
I look forward to Fox Sunday all week. I appreciate the clear-eyed view on this program of what faces our country against those with views that betray a practice of over-righteousness that distorts reality and, if followed, could surely lead to our self-destruction as the Bible's Ecclesiastes warned of. Thank heaven for your show !
The belief that the US health care system is broken rests on the record that health care insurance premiums and health care insurance company profits are rising. It is curious that efforts are being made to increase the numbers of those covered by health care insurance but all versions of health care reform legislation fail to reduce the cost of insurance. Instead, they increase its cost and attempt to hide the increase by proposing new taxes to offset the cost increase. The result is greater financial burden on individuals, families, and businesses.
