Web Exclusive: Jayson Blair Lessons Learned

Watch more of our Power Player interview with Jayson Blair about the mainstream media and the lessons he learned from his own ethics problems.

"Every time I think the media struggles or they are weakened by it, we collectively as society are weakened by it, and I certainly look at my own experience in that same context," Blair told Chris Wallace. "I feel like I delivered a blow, an unfortunate blow to a profession that not only did I personally love doing but that I value for society."

"In life most of the big ethical decisions don’t come sweeping down like a giant you know question from the sky saying hey Jayson do you want to throw away your career or hurt the people you love," he said.

"Those ethical choices often are made every day at a time, minute by minute in ways that you may not even relate to ethics, so I’m going to walk them through the whole story from that perspective and hopefully they’ll be able to walk away with something good from it."

I was mortified that FNS would choose someone of Jayson Blair's low moral character to be Power Player of the week. My suggestion is to drop the segment for you are scrapping (literally) the bottom of the barrel. I would rather hear the comments of the panel then waste time with such despicable characters as Blair. If you need some suggestions for PP of the W why don't you ask the public? Apparently your staff is giving you bad advice. Blain should be in jail not on TV as a reward for his lies.

What has happened to Mr. Wallace's professional judgement? POWER PLAYER OF THE WEEK has always been a prominent feature in a well respected Sunday News program. Jason Blair is NOT NEWSWORTHY or relevant in the context of today's issues. Unless you're beginning to believe yourself that FOX NEWS in NOT a legitimate NEWS organization.

The "Power Player of the Week" was certainly diminished by the choice of Jason Blair. Do we reward bad behavior in this way? "Learned his lesson"? No, the Power Player played Chris Wallace. This was just too disappointing. He must be related to someone at Fox...

Couldn't tell if he was lying all the way through the interview. Doesn't matter. His credibility is gone. I was disappointed that Chris Wallace did not broach the question "were you an affirmative action hire @ the NYT? What does the disaster of your experience (for you and your enablers / apologizers) say about affirmative action?"

Jason Blair: a waste of time. Afraid I abandoned Fox News Sunday for the end of a program on Animal Planet. Was more interesting and for that matter, more uplifting.

Wow!! I just saw that segment on Jason Blair & thought it was very interesting. I noticed some entries on here that seemed fairly negative & I don't have the time to discuss them now. However, I'd like to share my cop perspective. It is very rare that I have encountered someone who openly admitted their wrongdoing, took full responsibility for it & then took measures to correct the causes. There is a difference between explaining why you did something & trying to excuse it. Good luck Jason. Don

Chris, thank you so much for doing this piece. I think subject matter of the story is so important. Simply, man's failings and weakness, then forgiveness and redemption. It was a great piece and touched me because the subject matter is very close to my heart. Thank you so much! God Bless! Monica Texas

To the New York Times bashers here . . . do any of you appreciate the delicious irony of your comments? These same things can and should be said about FoxSnooze. If it ever had a soul, it lost it long ago bit by bit with every sneer and smirk, every false report, every bone-headed editorial decision (like putting a lunatic like Glenn Beck on the air), with every sycophantic interview of Darth Cheney or GDumbya, etc.

Jason Blair is the New York Times. When a News organization ignores facts or whole stories that don't serve to support a particular philosophy, then you are committing Journalistic Malpractice, just the same as making up stories whole cloth. Just as Bernie Madoffs scheme, mirrors the economiic principles presently being utilized by the United States Government. Jason Blair is not only the New York Times, but he represents the entire Main Stream Media plus MSNBC.

These words: "Those ethical choices often are made every day at a time, minute by minute in ways that you may not even relate to ethics, so I’m going to walk them through the whole story from that perspective and hopefully they’ll be able to walk away with something good from it." expose this guy as the fraud he is... Many make the right decisions every day because they understand that if you live your life by small ethical decisions, the large ones will resolve themselves... But not at the NYT.

Seriously, Power Player of the Week?? Seriously??? I can see tossing it out as a laugh (maybe) sitting around the table but this is who you think was literally the power player of this week in the news? Mind boggling. Only serves to highlight the kaleidoscope through which Fox must view what constitutes news and the players making it.

Jayson Blair's actions were unexcusable . Punishment for lhis actions is deserved; but there is such a thing as understanding. I recognized specific verbage he used as being those of a twelve step program to identify, acknowledge, and take responsibility for character defects. From my experience with others in such a program, he is committing to fixing his core self and not just the outward appearance. He may be worthy of personal grace. As for professional redempton; doubtful.

Waste of valuable air-time.... no one cares about Blair.

please do not have the dumb blond on again Chris. People who are not even old enough to remember 1970 should not be on your program. Also, jason Blaire should be in prison, not on your program. we never miss your program, and hope you will be more selective for your liberal panel members.

What were you thinking, FNS? Of all the important issues affecting us at this moment, of all the honorable people who deserve attention such as you could give them, you chose to shine your spotlight on Jason Blair, who disgraced himself by his inexcusable actions. Why waste your viewers' valuable time on news of his next exploits? I've been disappointed by your editorial decisions before, but never as much as I am today. Stay focussed, will you? We all need you to highlight what's important.

Jason Blair spoke sensibly about his failings. But what about the failings of the New York Times? It seems that its news and editorial leadership favored the stories, false and unverified, that Jason produced. The paper chose, and may continue to choose, to proselytize, and even prostitute itself, in pursuit of a political agenda rather than being a product of professional journalism.

What delicious irony! FoxSnooze naming a reporter "who makes things up" as Power Player of the Week. That's hilarious. And this segment was preceded by Britty and Billy The Bloody claiming that Fort Hood was an act of Islamic terrorism -- the first on U.S. soil since 9-11 ("it's Obama's fault"). I suppose that will be the new meme for the right-wing radio rant-jockeys and FNS (Fraud-casting Newsy Sycophants) now. Perhaps Jayson Blair can help FoxSnooze "heal" itself, too. LOL!

I am disappointed that you would showcase this disgraced person, with so many admirable people you might have featured. This is PC run amok.
