The health care vote moves to the Senate. Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday he expected to bring health care legislation to the floor next week and to complete work on the bill before Christmas. But other Democratic leaders said it was unlikely a bill could reach the President's desk by the year's end. Reid has not finalized the Senate version of the legislation and is waiting for additional analysis by the Congressional Budget Office.
Former President Bill Clinton went to Capitol Hill this week to underline the political consequences of failing to pass health care, warning "the worst thing to do is nothing."
"It's not important to be perfect here. It's important to act, to move, to start the ball rolling," Clinton said after a closed door meeting with Senate Democrats on Tuesday. "And whatever they can get the votes for, I'm going to support."
Meanwhile, President Obama led the country in mourning the 13 active and retired soldiers shot at Fort Hood. One by one, he listed the names of those killed and described their hopes and dreams and the families they left behind.
"It may be hard to comprehend the twisted logic that led to this tragedy. But this much we do know - no faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor. And for what he has done, we know that the killer will be met with justice - in this world, and the next," the President told thousands of soldiers and their families at the Fort Hood memorial service.
Plus, Sen. Lieberman's Homeland Security Committee hearing on Fort Hood, which he announced on FOX News Sunday, has been scheduled for next Thursday. The FBI and Defense Department continue to assert Hasan acted alone but they cautioned the investigation could take some time.
We’ll have the latest on health care and Fort Hood this Sunday.
